India calls for global unity against cross-border terrorism, warns against double standards

New Delhi, May 29: India on Friday strongly reiterated its position on terrorism, urging the international community to openly identify and act against countries that support or promote cross-border terrorism.

Addressing the weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stressed that terrorism remains a global threat that demands collective and uncompromising action.

“Cross-border terrorism is a threat the entire world must come together to combat. We must call out countries that support and promote terrorism from their territories,” Jaiswal said, responding to questions regarding recent remarks made by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during his visit to Moscow.

His comments echoed India’s consistent position that there should be no double standards in addressing terrorism, and that nations must take clear and decisive stances against its sponsors.

During his visit to Russia, NSA Ajit Doval had underlined that responsible countries must carefully evaluate their positions on terrorism and ensure they do not, directly or indirectly, support its perpetrators.

He made the remarks while attending the International Security Forum and the 14th Meeting of High Representatives for Security Matters in Moscow, hosted by Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

According to the Indian Embassy in Russia, Doval highlighted that global security discussions were taking place in the context of a rapidly changing multipolar world. He also called for reforms in international institutions established after World War II, arguing that they must better reflect the voice of the Global South and respond more effectively to modern security challenges.

Doval further stressed the importance of safeguarding global trade routes, particularly in sensitive regions such as West Asia, and called for ensuring uninterrupted maritime movement through strategic waterways including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.

India’s diplomatic messaging comes amid heightened tensions over cross-border terrorism concerns. Earlier this week, India issued a strong warning to Pakistan at the United Nations, stating that Islamabad must end its support for terrorism or face consequences.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, asserted that New Delhi has the right to defend itself against cross-border terrorism and said that nations supporting such activities must be held accountable.

“Pakistan must credibly and irrevocably end its support for all forms of terrorism,” Harish said, adding that there would be consequences for continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.

He also criticised Pakistan for raising unrelated issues during a UN Security Council debate, accusing it of attempting to deflect attention from its own record.

“The use of cross-border terrorism by Pakistan and its doctrine of bleeding India through a thousand cuts exposes its rhetoric on the UN Charter as hollow,” he said.

India has maintained that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations must be condemned universally, without selective application of global norms or political bias.
