Mumbai, May 29: Tesla on Friday announced the launch of the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) in India, introducing several hardware, design and technology upgrades aimed at improving performance, cabin comfort and overall driving experience.

The electric SUV comes with a refreshed interior, upgraded in-cabin technology and improved storage flexibility as Tesla expands its presence in the Indian electric vehicle market.

The 2026 Model Y Premium RWD features an all-black cabin theme with a blacked-out headliner and premium interior trim designed to offer a more refined and upscale appearance.

Tesla has also equipped the vehicle with a new 16-inch high-resolution touchscreen display featuring improved responsiveness for faster access to navigation, entertainment and vehicle controls.

The SUV includes power-folding seats and offers seating for up to five passengers. Tesla said the vehicle provides up to 2,138 litres of storage space, making it suitable for both family use and utility-focused buyers.

In terms of performance, the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is powered by Tesla’s electric motor technology and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds.

The company claims the SUV offers a driving range of up to 500 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

Tesla has introduced multiple interior options for the vehicle. While the all-black cabin comes as standard, buyers can also opt for a “Zen Grey” interior theme aimed at delivering a modern minimalist design.

The company stated that the Model Y Premium RWD, along with the recently launched six-seater Model Y L, has received top safety ratings from international agencies including NHTSA and IIHS in the United States, Euro NCAP in Europe, ANCAP in Australia and New Zealand, and C-IASI in China.

Tesla has priced the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive at Rs 50.89 lakh in India.

The company said buyers can also avail financing options with monthly EMIs starting from Rs 39,990 with a down payment of Rs 6 lakh.

According to Tesla, customers shifting to the Model Y Premium could potentially save up to Rs 20,000 per month through reduced fuel and maintenance expenses compared to conventional vehicles.

Tesla added that its direct retail and service model aims to simplify ownership and servicing experiences for Indian customers.

The company also stated that its home charging programme is currently available across all Indian states and that it will continue expanding its public charging infrastructure network in the country.
