New Delhi, May 28: Ferrari’s first fully electric vehicle, the Luce, has triggered massive reactions online after the luxury Italian carmaker unveiled the EV with a price tag of nearly USD 640,000 (around Rs 6 crore).
The five-seater electric car marks Ferrari’s biggest shift away from its traditional combustion-engine legacy and signals the company’s entry into the premium EV market.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna described the launch as a “very important day” for the company, saying the move reflected Ferrari’s effort to embrace future technologies while expanding its product portfolio.
However, the reveal quickly sparked criticism on social media, with many users questioning the car’s design language.
Unlike Ferrari’s signature aggressive supercar styling, the Luce features a softer and minimalist appearance with smooth curves, glass-heavy surfaces and subtle detailing. Several critics argued that the EV looked more like a consumer tech product than a performance-oriented Ferrari.
The vehicle was designed in collaboration with former Apple chief design officer Jony Ive and his design firm LoveFrom, bringing a distinctly Silicon Valley-inspired aesthetic to the luxury carmaker.
Social media users compared the Luce to “an Apple product on wheels,” while others described it as a “generic EV” lacking Ferrari’s traditional passion and personality.
Tesla-focused influencer Sawyer Merritt also criticised the design, calling it “one of the ugliest EV designs ever”.
Industry analysts reportedly expressed concern that Ferrari’s latest move could dilute the brand’s long-established identity and exclusivity.
Social media platforms were flooded with memes and sarcastic comments after images of the EV surfaced online.
One user wrote, “ChatGPT literally designed this in two minutes,” while another claimed Ferrari was trying to enter a market “where it has no edge”.
Others criticised the visible charging port, overall styling and departure from Ferrari’s iconic design philosophy.
Despite the criticism, the Luce has succeeded in generating massive global attention, highlighting the challenges luxury automakers face while transitioning towards electric mobility.
