India and Netherlands launch 5-year strategic roadmap to boost trade and tech cooperation

New Delhi, May 17: India and Netherlands have agreed to significantly expand their economic partnership through a newly adopted five-year strategic roadmap aimed at strengthening trade, investment, and technological cooperation across key sectors.

Under the “Roadmap of India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership 2026–2030,” both countries will focus on enhancing collaboration in areas such as semiconductors, renewable energy, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing.

The framework is designed to improve supply chain resilience and deepen industrial cooperation amid global economic uncertainty. It also seeks to encourage joint ventures, cross-border investments, and technology partnerships between companies from both countries.

As part of the plan, the two sides will utilise annual meetings of the Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) to expand bilateral trade, ease market access, and attract investment in high-growth sectors. Priority areas include renewable energy, maritime services, urban development, electronics, semiconductors, agriculture, medical technology, textiles, and metals such as iron, steel, and aluminium.

The roadmap also emphasises strengthening business-to-business engagement through trade fairs, business forums, and cooperation between industry associations and chambers of commerce in both countries.

A key component of the agreement is the periodic review of the Fast Track Mechanism, which is intended to resolve investment-related issues and facilitate smoother business operations.

Both nations have also agreed to explore a strategic partnership in the critical raw materials value chain under an existing memorandum of understanding on critical minerals. This cooperation will include exploration, research and innovation, supply chain integration, circular economy initiatives, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

The agreement further promotes two-way investment in priority sectors such as sustainable agriculture, high-tech innovation, medtech, and maritime infrastructure.

Officials from both sides said the initiative will also support small and medium enterprises, strengthen innovation ecosystems, and encourage public-private partnerships aimed at driving sustainable growth and employment generation in both economies.
