Mangaluru, May 12: SCS Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and joy at the hospital on Tuesday, May 12. As every year, the celebration was a memorable occasion dedicated to honouring the exceptional services rendered by the nurses and staff members of various departments of the hospital.

Prof Lolita S M D’Souza, principal, SCS College of Nursing Sciences, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, she emphasised the importance of patient care, compassion, empathy, dedication, and efficient infection control practices in the nursing profession. She appreciated the tireless commitment of nurses in providing quality healthcare services.

The programme was attended by Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, chairman and managing director; Rama J Sorake, chief administrative officer; Dr Shalini S Rao, medical superintendent; and Gracamma Antony, head of the nursing department of SCS Hospital, along with other dignitaries and guests.

One of the patients addressed the gathering and recollected her experience during her hospitalisation at SCS Hospital. She recalled the reassuring care, kind words, and night-long vigil of the kind-hearted nurses throughout her stay in the hospital, remembering it as an unforgettable experience in her life.

In his address, clinical director Dr Chandrashekar J Sorake highlighted the fact that even though we live in the age of AI, robotics, and technological advancement, neither machines nor technology can replace the human qualities of compassion and empathy, which have a deep impact on the lives of patients.

The talented staff members of the hospital showcased their musical talent and wit as part of the cultural programme. The celebration was an occasion to bring smiles and recognise the dedication of the nurses.
