Chennai, May 11: Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay on May 10 took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, marking the state’s first government outside the DMK and AIADMK fold in nearly six decades.
While several moments from the swearing-in ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium went viral on social media, actor Trisha Krishnan also grabbed attention with her appearance at the event.
Trisha arrived at the ceremony wearing an ice-blue silk saree and was seen greeting and hugging Vijay’s mother at the venue. Videos of the actor leaving the stadium while being mobbed by fans also surfaced online.

Her elegant traditional look quickly became a talking point among social media users and fashion enthusiasts, many of whom compared it to an old look of Aishwarya Rai.
For the ceremony, Trisha wore a blue saree from Pothys paired with a customised blouse by Niram and jewellery from GRT Jewellers. She completed the look with a gajra-adorned low bun, kohl-lined eyes and subtle makeup.
Soon after images from the event surfaced online, internet users began drawing comparisons with a photograph of Aishwarya Rai from her meeting with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000.
In the viral image, Aishwarya was seen wearing a similarly coloured saree with golden embroidery, paired with gold jewellery, winged eyeliner and a centre-parted bun hairstyle.
Several users on X compared the two looks, with one referring to the actors as “Nandini and Kundavai”, their character names from Ponniyin Selvan: I and Ponniyin Selvan: II.
Another user compared Trisha’s look to a still from Kandukondain Kandukondain featuring Aishwarya Rai.
Some social media users also mistakenly claimed that Trisha recreated Aishwarya’s saree look from Iruvar, though the viral reference image was actually from Aishwarya’s meeting with Vajpayee.
Both Trisha and Aishwarya Rai had shared screen space in director Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan film series.
