Chennai, May 10: Strong industry buzz suggests that the upcoming pan-Indian Malayalam action thriller Kattalan, directed by Paul George, may be gearing up for a theatrical release on May 28 this year, though an official confirmation is still awaited.

The film, headlined by Antony Varghese, has been generating attention after social media posts by an assistant director and actor Anson Paul featured promotional material listing the same release date. However, the production team has not yet formally announced the final release schedule.

Kattalan is produced by Shareef Muhammed under Cubes Entertainments, the banner behind the blockbuster Marco. The project is positioned as a large-scale pan-Indian action thriller with high expectations among audiences and industry watchers.

The film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Rajisha Vijayan, rapper Baby Jean, Telugu actor Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, and veteran Malayalam actors Jagadeesh and Siddique in important roles. Additional cast members include Parth Tiwari, Anson Paul, and emerging actor Shon Joy, who previously appeared in Alappuzha Gymkhana (2025).

Adding to the curiosity around the project, the makers had earlier announced acclaimed music composer Ajaneesh Loknath, known for Kantara, before later bringing on board Ravi Basrur, further heightening expectations for the film’s soundtrack.

Production updates indicate that filming was completed earlier this year. While an earlier announcement suggested a May 14 release window, later communications only mentioned the month without confirming a specific date.

The film’s writing is credited to Paul George, Joby Varghese, and Jero Jacob, marking their debut collaboration. The script is described as a gritty, high-stakes narrative centred on power struggles, betrayal, and intense missions.

Behind the scenes, the film features stunt choreography by Sharief, cinematography by Renadive, editing by Shameer Muhammed, and costume design by Dhanya Balakrishnan. The production also gained attention earlier for publicly acknowledging stunt performers after sharing behind-the-scenes footage of a major action sequence involving a vehicle rollover.

With rising anticipation and social media speculation, Kattalan continues to be one of the most closely watched upcoming releases in the pan-Indian film space.
