Puttur, Apr 28: A woman was killed and three others sustained serious injuries after a speeding vehicle rammed into a stationary auto-rickshaw on National Highway 75 near Kolpe in Nelyadi in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Girija, a resident of Surulimule house in Mangalapadavu under Vitla Kasaba in Bantwal taluk.

The injured include Deepak S., his uncle Somappa, Somappa’s son, and auto driver Tilak Raj. They have been admitted to hospitals in Mangaluru and Puttur for treatment.

According to reports, the group was travelling from Vitla towards the Kolpe area when they stopped the auto-rickshaw by the roadside to drink water. At that time, a Tufan vehicle crashed into the parked auto.

The impact pushed the auto forward, causing it to hit a roadside drain and come to a halt. Deepak and driver Tilak Raj were reportedly thrown out of the vehicle due to the collision.

A case has been registered at the Uppinangady police station based on a complaint filed by Deepak S. Further investigation is underway.

Rule no.1 : No vehicle is safe in road or roadside.......before blaming pathetic roads, blame the drivers for reckless driving or negligence in adhering to road safety!!! Or else who would park or hault the vehicle in roadside thinking no vehicle will pass by without hitting them!!
