Udupi, Apr 27: Congress Committee president Ramesh Kanchan visited the site of a devastating fire incident that occurred in the heart of Udupi city on April 26, leaving a trail of destruction and heavy financial losses. The fire, which gutted around 14 shops, has reportedly caused damage worth crores of rupees, raising serious concerns among local residents and leaders.
Expressing grief over the incident, Ramesh Kanchan said that the scale of destruction was deeply distressing. He highlighted allegations made by locals that the delay in the arrival of the fire and emergency services allowed the flames to spread rapidly, leading to extensive damage.

Calling for accountability Ramesh Kanchan has urged the district administration to conduct a high-level and transparent inquiry into the incident. He emphasized that if any negligence or administrative failure is found, strict legal action must be taken against those responsible.
Ramesh Kanchan further pointed out that the fire department in Udupi district is currently operating with outdated vehicles, which could hinder timely response during emergencies. He called upon the administration to submit a report to the government at the earliest and ensure that the district is equipped with modern, high-tech firefighting vehicles without delay.
Additionally, Ramesh Kanchan appealed to building and shop owners to take preventive measures by installing fire extinguishers in their premises. Such precautions, he noted, could significantly reduce losses in case of fire-related emergencies.
