Surat, Apr 27: A shocking case of alleged murder and deception has surfaced from Surat in Gujarat, where a man is accused of killing his wife, concealing her body in a wooden crate, and later filing a missing complaint to mislead the police.
The accused, identified as 40-year-old Vishal Salvi, had approached the police claiming that his wife, Shilpa Salvi (39), a dietician by profession, had been missing for four days. Based on his complaint, police initially began a routine missing person investigation.
However, the case took a dramatic turn during the early stages of the probe when a handwritten note was recovered from the couple’s residence. The note, reportedly written by Vishal himself, was found by their minor son and handed over to the police. It contained a confession-like message stating that he had committed a grave mistake and that his wife was no longer alive.

Following this development, investigators shifted their focus from a missing person case to a suspected murder. Acting on leads, police traced an abandoned property linked to the accused within the Salabatpura police station limits.
Upon forcing entry into the locked house, officers encountered a strong foul odour coming from a wooden crate kept in a corner. Inside the box, they discovered the decomposed body of the woman, allegedly concealed using raw cement.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder may have occurred four to five days before the missing complaint was filed. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic teams are assisting in collecting evidence to determine the exact cause of death.
Senior police officer Kanan Desai confirmed that although the case began as a missing complaint, the discovery of the note significantly altered the direction of the investigation.
Initial enquiries and statements from acquaintances indicate that the couple had been experiencing prolonged marital discord. The husband is suspected to have believed that his wife was involved in an extramarital affair, which is being examined as a possible motive.
The accused is currently absconding, and multiple police teams are conducting searches across various locations. Authorities are analysing CCTV footage and relying on human intelligence inputs to trace and apprehend him.
