Man loses Rs 4.86 lac in APK file scam in Udupi

Udupi, Apr 16: A case of online fraud involving the loss of several lacs of rupees after downloading an APK file received via WhatsApp has been registered at the cybercrime police station in Udupi.

According to the complaint, Abdul Hameed of Hejamady, Padubidri, received an APK file on April 12 from a mobile number belonging to his acquaintance, Kumaraswamy. Upon downloading the file, his bank account was allegedly compromised.

Subsequently, on April 13, a total of Rs 4.86 lac was siphoned off from his account in multiple transactions, it is learnt.

A case has been registered at the Udupi cybercrime police station, and investigations are under way.
