Hyderabad, Apr 15: Ace filmmaker S S Rajamouli’s Baahubali franchise continues its global journey, with the upcoming animated film Baahubali: The Eternal War being selected for the Work in Progress showcase at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Festival 2026.
Widely regarded as the “Cannes of animation,” the festival has chosen the project as a key representation of India’s evolving storytelling on the global stage. The selection offers international critics an early look at the film’s visuals and scale.

Unlike the earlier live-action films, the new installment explores a fresh narrative set after the death of Amarendra Baahubali, delving into a mythical afterlife where he is drawn into a cosmic war between Devas and Asuras. The story unfolds across 14 mystical realms, blending Indian mythology with high fantasy.
Actors Prabhas and Ramya Krishna return to lend their voices to iconic characters, while Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravaani handles the music.
Directed by Ishan Shukla, the film features cutting-edge 3D animation designed to match global standards. Backed by Arka Media Works, the project is being made on an estimated budget of Rs 120 crore, making it one of India’s most ambitious animated ventures.
The first part of the film is currently slated for a 2027 theatrical release, further expanding the Baahubali universe onto an international platform.
