IT Dept launches revamped TRACES portal to simplify TDS compliance

New Delhi, Apr 14: The Income Tax Department has rolled out an upgraded version of its TRACES portal, aimed at making tax-related processes easier, faster, and more user-friendly.

The revamp comes alongside the implementation of the Income-Tax Act, 2025, signalling a broader push towards digitisation and streamlined compliance.

The new TRACES portal replaces the older interface with a cleaner design, improved navigation, and simplified workflows. Users accessing the previous website are now automatically redirected to the updated platform, ensuring a seamless transition.

A key highlight of the upgrade is a centralised dashboard, allowing users to access multiple services from a single interface. Taxpayers can view Form 26AS, download TDS certificates such as Form 16, Form 16A and Form 16B, track TDS credits, and request corrections online.

The platform also introduces a dedicated compliance section to help users manage both current tax rules and past financial records more efficiently.

In a major change, the portal now functions as a single-window system for both TDS and TCS services, reducing the need to navigate multiple platforms. Additionally, a separate portal has been launched for non-resident taxpayers to better cater to different user categories.

The department has also introduced new return forms, replacing earlier ones such as 24Q and 26Q. The new Form 138 will be used for salary-related TDS filings, while Form 140 will cover non-salary payments including rent, commission, and professional fees. These changes are expected to reduce errors and improve processing efficiency.

For property transactions, taxpayers will continue to deposit TDS using Form 26QB via the e-filing portal, while the TRACES platform will handle post-payment activities such as certificate downloads, verification, and corrections.

Officials said the upgraded system is part of a wider effort to enhance transparency, reduce compliance burden, and improve overall taxpayer experience.
