Mumbai, Apr 9: Actor Rajesh Kumar, best known for his role as Rosesh in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, has revealed that his passion for farming has now inspired his family, with his sisters quitting high-paying jobs abroad to join him in agriculture.
Kumar had earlier stepped away from acting to pursue organic farming in his hometown in Bihar, experimenting with various initiatives including launching an app, selling organic produce and even setting up a vegetable cart.

Sharing a recent development, the actor said that his sisters, who had been settled in the US and Finland for over 25 years, decided to return to India. “My elder sister resigned from her job in America and came to Bihar as a birthday gift. She told me to focus on acting while she would handle farming. Inspired by her, my younger sister also quit her job and joined us,” he said.
However, the transition has not been without hurdles. Kumar noted that his sisters have faced difficulties adjusting to rural infrastructure, including poor internet connectivity. “We are still on 2G here, and officials say it will take time for 5G to arrive,” he said.
The actor also opened up about the financial setbacks he faced while pursuing farming. What began as a passion project eventually resulted in losses exceeding Rs 2 crore.
Recounting his struggles, Kumar said he had leased 20 acres of land in Palghar in 2019, but his initial efforts were hit by an unexpected flood that destroyed over 15,000 saplings.
Multiple attempts at farming failed, forcing him to even sell vegetables outside his son’s school to make ends meet.
“At one point, I had just Rs 2,500 in my bank account,” he recalled, describing the difficult phase marked by mounting debt and financial stress.
Despite the challenges, Kumar said he has now largely recovered, with only a small portion of the debt remaining. He also hinted at launching a new, unique venture related to farming in the near future.
