Modi criticises Congress over dynasty politics, pitches BJP’s development agenda in Assam

Guwahati, Apr 6: Addressing a public rally in Assam’s Hojai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp but indirect attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing it of placing family interests above the needs of the people.

Without naming the Gandhi family outright, Modi suggested that the Congress continues to operate with a “family-first” mindset. He contrasted this with the BJP’s governance philosophy, which he said is rooted in development and public service. Referring obliquely to the Nehru-Gandhi family, he remarked that the party remains focused on serving a “royal family” in Delhi, while similar patterns of family dominance exist within its Assam leadership as well.

Highlighting his government’s priorities, Modi stated that the BJP is driven by the principles of “nation first” and “people first.” He emphasized that ongoing development initiatives in Assam reflect the party’s commitment to improving livelihoods and ensuring long-term progress.

The Prime Minister also raised corruption concerns, alleging that members linked to this “royal family” are currently out on bail in various cases, questioning the Congress party’s credibility and governance record.

Turning to other states, Modi cited Himachal Pradesh as an example of what he described as Congress’ failure to deliver on electoral promises. He claimed that despite making ambitious commitments before elections, the party fell short after coming to power, even reducing salaries of government employees—an act he portrayed as a betrayal of public trust.

According to Modi, such instances reveal a recurring trend in Congress governance, where promises made during campaigns are not fulfilled later. He urged voters in Assam to remain vigilant and support the BJP, asserting that his party has consistently honored its commitments.

Reinforcing his development narrative, Modi said the BJP is dedicated to ensuring stability, growth, and improved living standards across Assam.

He also accused Congress of encouraging illegal infiltration, claiming that such practices have led to large portions of land belonging to indigenous communities being occupied. He argued that this situation is a consequence of vote-bank politics.

In contrast, Modi stated that both the central and Assam governments are taking firm steps to address the issue. He said efforts are underway to reclaim encroached land and protect the rights, culture, and identity of the local population.

Further criticizing Congress, he alleged that its leaders oppose government action against illegal infiltration and even support those accused of occupying land unlawfully.
