One held after attack on Shashi Tharoor’s gunman, driver in Kerala

Malappuram, Apr 4: One person has been taken into custody after the gunman and driver of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor were allegedly attacked by a group of five in Wandoor, police said on Saturday.

According to police, the incident occurred around 7.30 pm on Friday near Chellithode bridge at Thiruvali, when Tharoor was on his way to attend an election campaign event of Congress leader A P Anilkumar.

Based on a complaint filed by Tharoor’s gunman Ratheesh K P, a case has been registered at Wandoor Police Station. The FIR stated that the accused, travelling in two vehicles, allegedly blocked the MP’s convoy on the narrow road.

When the gunman attempted to clear the road and requested the vehicle ahead to move, he and the driver were reportedly attacked by the group.

Police said one accused was taken into custody late Friday night, while the remaining suspects have been identified and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

Further investigation is in progress.
