‘Biker’ review: Strong on track action, weak on emotional depth

Chennai, Apr 3: The choice of motocross as the backdrop gives Biker an immediate edge. Dirt tracks, roaring engines, and high-risk jumps offer a fresh canvas for Telugu cinema—something rarely explored before. Director Abhilash Reddy deserves credit for venturing into this terrain. However, the film truly comes alive only when the bikes are in motion.

Sharwanand plays Vikas “Vikky” Narayan, a talented motocross racer mentored by his father Sunil Narayan, portrayed by Rajasekhar. The story hinges on Vikky’s sudden decision to quit the sport, setting up a father-son conflict rooted in ambition, pride, and inherited dreams. While the premise is compelling, the execution struggles to sustain emotional engagement.

Set in early-2000s Coimbatore, the film attempts to explore the burden of parental expectations. Yet, once it shifts focus from racing to drama, it loses momentum. The romantic subplot involving Malvika Nair feels formulaic and adds little to the narrative.

Where Biker excels is in its racing sequences. The motocross scenes are shot with authenticity and energy, capturing the raw physicality of the sport. Sharwanand’s transformation adds credibility, making his presence on the track convincing and engaging.

However, the core emotional conflict between father and son never fully lands. The confrontations feel staged rather than organic, lacking the depth needed to make the audience truly invest in their relationship.

Ultimately, despite its novel sporting backdrop, Biker is weighed down by a dated screenplay centred on male ego and predictable conflicts. It starts with promise but struggles to maintain impact beyond its adrenaline-filled moments.
