Faridabad, Apr 2: Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly stealing a pair of gold tops from a jewellery shop in Faridabad, officials said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Kajal, is reportedly a habitual offender. Police said she had been released on bail from Neemka Jail around three months ago before allegedly committing the theft again.

According to the complaint filed by Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony, the incident took place on February 27 at his jewellery shop. The woman allegedly entered the shop posing as a customer and asked to see gold ornaments.

While engaging the shop owner in conversation, she reportedly took advantage of a moment when he turned away to fetch more items and stole a pair of tops from the jewellery set kept in front of her.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Ballabgarh City Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the investigation, the police traced and arrested the accused from Indira Colony in Sector 8 on Tuesday.

Kajal was produced before a local court on Wednesday, which remanded her to one-day police custody. Further questioning is underway, police said.
