Raipur/Sukma, Mar 29: One Maoist cadre was killed in an encounter with security forces in the forested hills of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh on Sunday, police said.
The operation was carried out by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) following specific intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the Polampalli Police Station area. According to Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan, security personnel launched a search operation in the dense forest, during which intermittent gunfire broke out between the forces and Maoist cadres from the morning.

After the exchange of fire subsided, the search team recovered the body of a Maoist along with a weapon from the encounter site. The deceased was identified as Moochaki Kailash, also known as PPCM, a resident of Poolanpad village under Chintalnar police station limits. He served as a Section Commander in Platoon No. 31 of the Communist Party of India Maoist and carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh.
Police said Kailash was wanted in multiple cases involving attacks on security forces, civilian killings, and conspiracies related to improvised explosive device (IED) blasts.
Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattilingam, urged remaining Maoist cadres to surrender, stating that the window for rehabilitation is nearing its end. He appealed to them to abandon violence and return to mainstream society for a safer and dignified life.
The encounter comes amid intensified anti-Left Wing Extremism operations across the Bastar region, as security forces step up efforts ahead of the Centre’s March 2026 target to eliminate Maoist influence in the area.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported among security personnel. The body of the slain cadre has been sent for post-mortem, while search operations continue in nearby forest areas to track down other Maoists who may have escaped.
The successful operation is being viewed as another step towards restoring peace and stability in the Maoist-affected Sukma region.
