Trump to unveil farm relief measures amid tariff and Iran war pressures

Daijiworld Media Network - Washington

Washington, Mar 27: US President Donald Trump is set to announce new measures aimed at supporting farmers, including changes in farm equipment regulations and expanded loan guarantees, during an event at the White House.

The announcement comes as the agriculture sector faces mounting challenges due to tariffs and the ongoing Iran conflict, which has driven up fuel and fertiliser costs. More than 800 farmers are expected to attend the event on the South Lawn.

The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to revise guidelines related to diesel emissions systems. The new guidance will allow manufacturers to switch to alternative diesel exhaust fluid sensors, a move the administration says will reduce costs and address operational concerns.

Additionally, the Small Business Administration will enhance its loan guarantee programme for agriculture-related small businesses, increasing the government-backed guarantee from 75 per cent to 90 per cent.

The move follows a previously announced $12 billion federal assistance package for farmers and is aimed at easing financial pressure on the sector.

Rising global tensions, particularly involving Iran, have disrupted oil and natural gas supplies, impacting fertiliser availability and pushing up fuel prices, further straining the agriculture industry.
