Hyderabad, Mar 27: A Special Sessions Court for trial of MPs/MLAs at Nampally in Hyderabad on Thursday acquitted Congress leader T Jayaprakash Reddy in an alleged human trafficking case registered in 2018.

The court found Jagga Reddy, also known as Jagga Reddy, and co-accused M Jetti Kusum Kumar not guilty, citing failure of the prosecution to prove the charges.

Jagga Reddy, a former MLA from Sangareddy, was arrested in September 2018 and later released on bail. At the time, police had alleged that he procured Indian passports and US visas using fabricated documents in the names of his family members, allegedly affixing photographs of other individuals for illegal overseas travel.

The accusations included cheating authorities at the Regional Passport Office and the US Consulate, and involvement in human trafficking for monetary gains.

A suo motu case was registered by Market police under multiple sections of the IPC, along with provisions of the Passport Act and the Immigration (Carriers’ Liability) Act.

However, after trial, the court ruled that the prosecution failed to substantiate the allegations, leading to the acquittal of the accused.
