Mumbai, Mar 23: Fans of Malayalam cinema will have to wait a little longer as Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal, has been postponed and will now release on May 21, coinciding with the superstar’s birthday.

The much-anticipated third instalment of the blockbuster franchise was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on April 2. Announcing the revised date on social media, Mohanlal teased fans with a cryptic message hinting at the return of his iconic character Georgekutty.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film has been generating strong buzz, with reports suggesting that the delay may be linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting the Gulf region.

The actor completed shooting for the film in December last year, marking the occasion with the cast and crew. Notably, Mohanlal began working on the project on the same day he was honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, the film will see the return of key cast members including Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Siddique, Murali Gopy, and K. B. Ganesh Kumar.

The original Drishyam, released in 2013, became a landmark in Malayalam cinema, followed by a successful sequel in 2021. With its gripping storyline and strong performances, the franchise has built a massive fan base, making the third instalment one of the most awaited films in Indian cinema.
