New York, Mar 23: An Air Canada Express aircraft reportedly collided with a ground vehicle, believed to be a fire truck, at LaGuardia Airport, prompting authorities to shut operations and issue a ground stop.
According to flight tracking platform Flightradar24, the incident involved a CRJ-900 aircraft and occurred near runway 4. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed a ground stop for all flights, citing an emergency situation.
Audio from the air traffic control (ATC) tower circulating on social media captured tense moments, with officials urgently instructing the vehicle to stop moments before the reported collision. Shortly after, incoming flights were asked to abort landings and circle back.

Visuals from the airport suggested the aircraft sustained significant damage, while passengers were reportedly evacuated onto the tarmac. There were also unconfirmed reports of injuries, though no official confirmation was immediately available.
Following the incident, runway operations were halted and the airport was temporarily closed, with indications that the suspension could be extended.
The disruption comes amid broader travel issues in the United States, including long security lines and delays at several airports, partly linked to ongoing staffing challenges.
Authorities are yet to release detailed information on the cause of the incident, and an investigation is expected.
