Uproar at BJP office in UP as woman accuses party functionary of Rs 4.5 lac fraud

Maharajganj, Mar 19: A felicitation programme at a Bharatiya Janata Party office in Maharajganj district turned chaotic on Wednesday after a woman stormed the venue, accused a party functionary of cheating her of Rs 4.5 lakh, and assaulted him in full public view.

The incident occurred during a programme organised to felicitate nominated councillors and party office-bearers. Eyewitnesses said the event had just begun when the woman entered the premises and confronted the functionary over an alleged financial dispute.

In a dramatic turn, she allegedly slapped the leader and tried to drag him by the collar, triggering panic among those present. Party workers rushed to intervene, but the situation quickly escalated into a heated altercation.

The woman claimed that she had handed over around Rs 4.5 lakh to the accused for investment in LIC deposits, but the amount was never deposited and was instead misappropriated. Accompanied by her son, she demanded immediate repayment at the venue.

The confrontation soon intensified, with reports of scuffles, verbal abuse, and even footwear being hurled during the clash.

Police arrived at the scene following information about the disturbance and brought the situation under control. The woman and others involved were escorted out, and the programme resumed after nearly an hour.

Former district president and ex-candidate Sameer Tripathi said the clash erupted suddenly over a monetary dispute.

“Had we been informed earlier, the situation could have been avoided. Both individuals are associated with the party. Efforts will be made to resolve the matter,” he said.

A video of the incident has since surfaced on social media and is being widely circulated, capturing the moment of confrontation and the ensuing chaos at the party office.
