Mangaluru: International Women’s Day celebration held at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital

Mangaluru, Mar 14: International Women’s Day was observed at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, with a programme highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment, equality, and their role in society.

The programme began with a welcome address by Nelvin Nelson, deputy manager and chief coordinator of Transplant and Robotics, who briefly spoke on the significance of International Women’s Day and the need to promote equality and respect for women.

The chief guests for the programme, Elizabeth Neeliyara, renowned advocate and former vice president of the Mangalore Bar Association, and Dr Rosina V N, manager – clinical operations at Yenepoya Speciality Hospital, addressed the gathering. Elizabeth Neeliyara explained the history behind the celebration of Women’s Day and spoke about women’s rights, safety, and legal provisions related to sexual laws and protection for women.

Dr Rosina encouraged women to be self-sufficient and independent, emphasising confidence and determination for personal and professional growth.

Noothan Lasrado, nursing superintendent of Yenepoya Medical College Hospital and guest of honour, spoke about how women should aspire to achieve greater heights and noted that behind the success of many women there are supportive men who encourage and stand by them.

The presidential address was delivered by Dr Santhosh Pai, in-charge medical superintendent and professor & head of the Department of Nephrology, who remarked that every day should be considered Women’s Day, appreciating the selfless nature of women and their invaluable role in society.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Muhammed Sabith, deputy hospital operations officer. The event was hosted by Niliesha Melita Carvallo, assistant hospital operations officer.

Women staff from various departments including housekeeping, FNO, doctors, nurses, technical and clerical staff’s were present for the programme, which served as a platform to encourage women’s empowerment and promote equal opportunities for women in all walks of life.
