Fire breaks out in coconut plantation at Punjalakatte; around 30 trees damaged

Bantwal, Mar 12: A fire broke out in a coconut plantation located on private land at Neralakatte in Pilathabettu village near Punjalakatte on Wednesday, damaging several trees.

According to local sources, the incident resulted in the bases of nearly 30 coconut trees being burnt. Smoke was first noticed in the afternoon, but the owner of the property was reportedly out of the village, causing a delay in identifying the situation.

Local residents who noticed the smoke rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the flames. Later, personnel from the Bantwal Fire and Emergency Services arrived and succeeded in bringing the fire under control.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Officials said further inquiry is underway.
