Mount Carmel Central School celebrates International Women’s Day 2026

Mangaluru, Mar 8: The auditorium of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru came alive with a spirit of celebration and gratitude as the school marked International Women’s Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and reverence under the theme “Give to Gain” on Friday, March 6.

The meaningful programme organised by the students of grade V B and D began with a solemn prayer service invoking God’s blessings upon all women whose compassion, courage, and wisdom enrich the lives so many daily. The celebration continued with a vibrant welcome dance that creatively showcased women who have excelled in diverse fields such as science, sports, leadership, and social service. The graceful performance beautifully expressed admiration and gratitude for women achievers whose dedication continues to inspire society.

The welcome address was delivered by Savio Cardoza and Aaradhya V P, who warmly greeted the gathering and extended a cordial welcome to the esteemed chief guest, Sr Leela, the superior of the Presentation Convent, Maryhill. As a mark of honour and appreciation, the chief guest was presented with a flower sapling by the vice principal, Sr Teena. The sapling symbolised growth, nurturing, and the spirit of the theme “Give to Gain.”

A thought-provoking skit titled “The Flower of Equality – A Success in Giving”, presented creatively, portrayed how courage, opportunity, support, and education enable women to flourish and contribute meaningfully to society. The performance also paid tribute to Venerable Mother Veronica, the foundress of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, whose inspiring vision continues to empower young minds and transform lives through education. The programme further featured a graceful dance performance celebrating the many roles of womenas mothers, teachers, leaders, and change makers who shape the world with compassion and strength. This was followed by a melodious group song titled “Bharat Ki Naari”. Adding a special highlight to the celebration, a talented grade V B student Thrapthi Suvarna presented a remarkable saxophone performance, displaying exceptional musical skill and confidence.

Chief guest Sr Leela addressed the students with warmth and energy, inspiring them to embrace the spirit of “Give to Gain”. She praised the students of grade V B and D for their vibrant performance and highlighted that International Women’s Day celebrates equality, dignity, and justice for women everywhere. Speaking about Venerable Mother Veronica, she reminded everyone that women are makers of history, full of strength and courage, and encouraged all to support, honour, and uplift women in every sphere of life.

Angela Sarah D’Almeida of Grade VII D was felicitated for securing an outstanding 98% and standing first at school level, in the Catechism examination conducted by the diocese of Mangalore.

Sr Carissima, the administrator, spoke about the origins of International Women’s Day, first celebrated in 1911 and recognized in India from the 1970s. Sharing a personal school experience, she encouraged students to overcome fears, believe in themselves, and embrace opportunities with confidence.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Paul, Shaina and Slokh. The young MCs Brennan Jesen D’Souza, Rishen Shetty, Jeshal Rodrigues, Mishel D’Souza, Sheraz Abdullah Shamim, Aurik Rego, Suzanne Carol D’Almeida, and Cianna Preeval Veigas guided the audience with energy and enthusiasm.

The celebration of International Women’s Day concluded on an inspiring note, reminding everyone that supporting, respecting, and uplifting women strengthens and enriches society.
