Oslo, Mar 8: An explosion struck the Embassy of the United States, Oslo early Sunday, causing minor damage but leaving no one injured, according to Norwegian authorities.

The blast occurred around 1 am local time near the embassy compound in western Oslo. Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the area shortly after the explosion.

Police spokesperson Mikael Dellemyr told Norwegian public broadcaster NRK that investigators had confirmed the explosion struck the American embassy building.

“We’ve determined that an explosion hit the American embassy,” Dellemyr said, adding that it occurred near the entrance to the consular section.

The Oslo Police District said it is still unclear what caused the explosion or who might be responsible. In a statement, the police said they are in contact with embassy officials and that no injuries have been reported.

The embassy did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours, while the United States Department of State also did not issue an immediate statement.

Authorities have launched an investigation and further details are awaited.

The incident comes at a time when several US missions in the Middle East have been targeted by Iran amid tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.

However, officials have not indicated any link between the Oslo explosion and developments in the Middle East.
