Amit Shah joins in criticising West Bengal govt over Santal conference controversy

Daijiworld Media Network - Kolkata

Kolkata, Mar 7: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday criticised the West Bengal government and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the venue change controversy for the 9th International Santal Conference, where President Droupadi Murmu was the chief guest.

Shah condemned the TMC, saying it had “hit a new low in its anarchic behaviour by humiliating the President of India” and accused the state government of disregarding protocol. He called the incident an insult to the nation and its democratic values, highlighting that even the highest constitutional office was not spared.

Earlier, PM Modi expressed that the developments had “deeply hurt people who believe in democratic values and the empowerment of tribal communities.” He described the situation as “shameful and unprecedented” and held the TMC-led state administration responsible for the disrespect shown to President Murmu.

Both leaders framed the controversy as a broader reflection of the state government’s alleged disregard for democratic norms and tribal empowerment.
