Beltangady, Mar 6: Police have registered a case against two persons for allegedly illegally extracting and transporting sand from the banks of the Netravathi river at Alenjikatte in Kadirudyavara village of Beltangady taluk.
According to police, the accused have been identified as Nizamuddin (47), a resident of Bedrabettu Church Guddé in Indabettu village, and Hanif (44), a resident of Killur in Mithabagilu village of Beltangady taluk.
The duo was allegedly attempting to collect and transport sand in a tipper lorry without obtaining the required government permission. Acting on credible information, Beltangady police conducted a raid at the spot and seized a tipper lorry valued at approximately Rs 3.5 lakh, sand worth about Rs 6,500, and equipment used for loading the sand into the vehicle.

A case has been registered at the Beltangady police station based on a complaint filed by ASI Kushalappa Naik on March 4. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
