Panaji, Feb 28: A team from the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) was allegedly obstructed by a group of unidentified men in Mapusa on Thursday afternoon, enabling a drug suspect to flee from police custody.

According to a complaint filed by ANC PSI Saheen Shetye, the incident occurred around 3.30 pm near the Bodgeshwar Temple area when officers attempted to intercept accused Ravi Naik. As the team moved in, Ravi, along with Gopi Naik and approximately 10 to 15 unidentified individuals, reportedly surrounded and restrained the officers.

Police stated that Ravi allegedly pushed the personnel and managed to escape during the commotion. The group is also accused of threatening PSI Shetye and her team and obstructing them from performing their official duties.

Authorities believe the group actively assisted Ravi in evading arrest. With the accused still absconding, all investigative units have been alerted to keep a lookout and coordinate efforts to trace him.

The case is currently under investigation by PSI Aditya Gad.
