Mangaluru, Feb 28: Milagres College organised a large-scale cleanliness drive at Tannirbhavi Beach on February 27, with the objective of creating awareness about environmental protection and promoting cleanliness in public places. The programme witnessed the active participation of five staff members and 85 students.
Demonstrating a commendable sense of responsibility, the volunteers cleaned nearly two kilometres of the beach by collecting plastic waste, glass bottles, and other litter scattered along the shoreline. By the end of the drive, approximately 28 bags of waste were collected and disposed of, making the stretch of the beach plastic-free.

Chetan, health officer of the Surathkal zone, along with eight sanitation workers from the Mangaluru City Corporation, guided the students throughout the programme. Addressing the participants, he emphasised that maintaining cleanliness in the surroundings is a primary duty of every citizen and highlighted the importance of segregating waste into dry and wet categories for effective scientific waste management.
Speaking on the occasion, Akash remarked that the small efforts undertaken today would contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment in the future. He encouraged students to develop a strong sense of social responsibility towards the community.
The outreach coordinator B Prathibha D’Souza, Priya, and lecturers Roshan Coelho and Clyde D’Souza supervised the segregation and transportation of waste, ensuring the smooth and successful execution of the cleanliness drive.
