Udupi, Feb 28: Prohibitory orders have been imposed in 80 Badagabettu village under the jurisdiction of the Manipal police station following tensions between local leaders over the ground-breaking (Guddali Pooja) ceremony of a new Kambala field.

The proposed ceremony for the new Kambala ground was scheduled to be held at 10 am on February 28 on 6.30 acres of land reserved for the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, located in 80 Badagabettu village in Udupi taluk. Around 200 people, including the district MLA and MP, were expected to participate in the event.

However, dissatisfaction has been reported among local residents regarding the reservation of the land for Kambala. The district administration had officially announced that the programme would be organized on March 4. Despite this, an unofficial event was reportedly being planned on February 28 with a gathering of about 200 people, raising concerns about possible unrest and clashes.

In view of the potential law and order situation, the deputy commissioner of Udupi district, Swaroopa TK, has issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The restrictions are in force from 6 am to 10 pm on February 28 within the 6.30-acre land parcel reserved for the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department in 80 Badagabettu village.

Under the order, carrying weapons such as sticks, swords, spears, maces, guns, knives, clubs, or any objects capable of causing physical harm is strictly prohibited. The use and storage of fireworks, explosive or inflammable substances, stones, or any devices capable of being used as projectiles are also banned.

Additionally, making provocative public announcements, singing songs, playing music, delivering inflammatory speeches, using gestures or symbolic representations that may incite tensions, and preparing, displaying, or circulating posters, banners, images, or any other materials likely to disturb the peace have been completely prohibited.

The district administration office has warned that strict legal action and criminal cases will be initiated against anyone found violating the prohibitory orders.
