Bikaner, Feb 26: A four-year-old boy was critically injured after being attacked by stray dogs inside a school campus in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district on Wednesday, triggering outrage among villagers and raising serious questions over campus security. The incident occurred on what was reportedly the child’s first day at school.

The attack took place at Swami Vivekananda Model School in Upni village under the Sridungargarh area. According to local sources, the child had accompanied his elder brother to school in the morning. Nearly an hour and a half later, he allegedly stepped out of his classroom.

Villagers claimed that the school’s main gate was open and no security guard was on duty at the time. Stray dogs reportedly entered the premises and attacked the child near the entrance. Hearing his screams, a local resident rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him.

The injured boy was immediately taken to PBM Hospital, where doctors said he suffered deep head injuries. Medical officials stated that the dogs had torn at his scalp and that repeated wound cleaning procedures would be required. Doctors indicated that the child’s treatment is expected to be prolonged.

The incident has sparked anger among villagers, who questioned why preventive measures were not taken despite alleged prior complaints about stray dogs in the area. Residents also expressed concern over the absence of security personnel and the open main gate during school hours.

The latest incident in Bikaner has renewed calls for stricter measures to address stray dog threats and ensure safety within school campuses.
