Calangute, Feb 20: Two separate road accidents in northern Goa left several tourists injured on Thursday morning.

In Calangute, a roadside electricity transformer at Naika Vaddo was destroyed after a Gujarat-registered car crashed into it around 4 a.m., triggering a fire. Officials from the Pilerne Fire Station said they received a call at 4:30 a.m. and quickly brought the blaze under control on the Calangute-Candolim road. The car’s driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, first hit a parked vehicle before colliding with the transformer. One passenger in the car sustained injuries.

In a separate incident on the Baga-Arpora road, a two-wheeler collided with a group of tourists walking along the roadside, leaving five tourists injured. Police have registered two cases in connection with these accidents.

Authorities have urged caution on busy tourist roads, highlighting the risks of reckless driving, especially during early morning hours.
