South Goa, Feb 18: MLA Venzy Viegas has strongly criticised the recent tariff order issued by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), stating that the increase in electricity bills, tariffs and penalties has placed an undue burden on the common people.
Addressing the media, Viegas said the revised tariff structure would further strain households and small consumers who are already grappling with rising living costs. Terming the hike as “anti-people” and unjust, he urged the authorities concerned to reconsider the decision in the larger public interest.

The MLA appealed to all panchayats across South Goa to come together in opposition to both the installation of smart meters and the proposed tariff increase. He also demanded the withdrawal of the one-time penalty imposed on consumers, stating that such measures would only add to public distress.
Reiterating his commitment to stand with the people, Viegas affirmed that he would continue to raise the issue at appropriate forums to ensure affordable and fair electricity pricing for the citizens of Goa.
