Srinagar, Feb 13: In a decisive move against narcotics trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have confiscated immovable assets worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
According to an official statement, the action was carried out by Kulgam Police against an alleged drug peddler, Mohd Ashraf Khanday, a resident of Nipora, Kulgam. The properties, located in Village Manigam under the jurisdiction of Police Station Qazigund, include six shops, five godowns, a tin shed, and a plinth structure.

Authorities confirmed that the attachment was executed under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after completing all required legal procedures. Investigations revealed that the seized properties were proceeds of illicit drug trafficking and were directly linked to narcotics-related activities.
Police further stated that the accused is also named in FIR No. 196/2024 registered under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station.
Describing the action as part of a broader strategy, officials said the move aims to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting drug networks and reinforce the message that unlawful gains will not be tolerated.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, IPS, reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance approach toward drug trafficking. He warned that individuals involved in peddling, financing, or facilitating narcotics operations would face stringent legal consequences, including property seizure and financial scrutiny under the law.
He emphasized that illegally acquired wealth would be traced and confiscated, adding that enforcement agencies remain committed to ensuring accountability.
The SSP also urged members of the public to assist law enforcement agencies by sharing credible information and joining collective efforts to safeguard youth and society from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
