Opposition MLCs marshalled out of Bihar Council amid ruckus

Daijiworld Media Network - Patna

Patna, Feb 10: Marshals on Tuesday evicted opposition members from the Bihar legislative council following repeated disruptions and warnings from the Chair, as proceedings were stalled by noisy protests.

Chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh also suspended the opposition MLCs, most of them from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), for the remainder of the day after they refused to return to their seats.

Trouble erupted when opposition members stood up in the House demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over what they described as rising cases of crimes against women in the state. Despite appeals from the Chair to allow proceedings to continue, the members continued sloganeering.

Amid the chaos, JD(U) minister Ashok Choudhary was seen in a heated exchange with RJD MLC Sunil Singh. The situation escalated when opposition members rushed into the well of the House, prompting BJP minister Mangal Pandey to remark that their conduct showed they had no intention of allowing the House to function.

The Chairman repeatedly urged the members to return to their seats, warning them to either let the House run or leave for the day. As the protests continued, he ordered marshals to evict the members and announced their suspension for the day.

Those suspended include Leader of Opposition Rabri Devi, RJD MLCs Sunil Singh and Ajay Kumar Singh, and CPI-ML Liberation member Shashi Yadav.
