BJP youth wing leader accused in brutal attack

Indore, Feb 9: A shocking incident of street violence was reported in Indore on Sunday after a BJP Youth Wing office-bearer and his associates allegedly attacked two young men, leaving them seriously injured and damaging their vehicle.

Police identified the main accused as Vedant Tiwari, Mandal Vice President of the BJP Youth Wing. The victims, Prakhar Sharma and Nayan Bafna, residents of Sudama Nagar, were returning in their Scorpio after having tea at a café when Tiwari, along with associates Sameer Sharma and Aditya, allegedly chased their vehicle, forced it to stop and assaulted them in the Rau area.

The attackers allegedly smashed the windows of the vehicle before fleeing the spot. The injured men were rushed to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment for serious head injuries.

Preliminary investigations point to a long-standing rivalry between the two groups over local dominance. Police said this was not the first confrontation, as the same group had allegedly attempted to corner the victims near Mahunaka Square around 20 days ago. The victims managed to escape then, and the matter was taken to Chhatripura police station, where a compromise was reportedly reached.

Police sources said the earlier compromise may have emboldened the accused, leading to Sunday’s violent attack. Following the incident, the injured men reached Rau police station, where tensions escalated as their families alleged political pressure from ruling party leaders initially delayed the registration of an FIR.

After a commotion at the police station, officials registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation into the incident.
