Raipur/Narayanpur, Jan 7: In a decisive action against Left-Wing Extremism in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, Narayanpur Police, working alongside the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), have demolished a large Maoist monument in Farsgaon village of the Kutul area, a zone long identified as a hub of Naxalite activity.
The operation was carried out as part of the ongoing ‘Maad Bachao (Save Maad)’ campaign, a coordinated effort by the central and state governments to eliminate Naxal influence and usher in development across the region. The drive focuses on reclaiming insurgency-affected areas while integrating them into the mainstream through security and welfare initiatives.
According to police officials, joint security teams conducted extensive area domination patrols across Kutul, Farsgaon, and nearby interior villages. During the operation, forces located the Maoist-built monument within the jurisdiction of Kohkameta police station and the Kutul Police Assistance Centre. Heavy machinery, including a jumbo excavator, was deployed to dismantle the structure.
Officials said the monument was not merely a physical structure but a psychological tool used by Maoists to glorify slain cadres and assert ideological control over local communities. Its removal marks a direct setback to insurgent propaganda efforts in remote tribal areas.
The action is part of broader measures to regain control of Abujhmad, the dense forest region that has historically served as a stronghold for Naxalite groups. Alongside security operations, authorities are setting up new security camps, fast-tracking road and bridge construction, and expanding access to government welfare schemes in previously cut-off villages.
These combined efforts have reportedly improved trust among local residents, leading to increased intelligence sharing and growing resistance to Maoist extortion and forced recruitment. The ‘Maad Bachao’ campaign has seen notable progress in recent months, including weapons seizures, militant surrenders, and an expanded security presence.
Police officials stressed that dismantling such symbols of extremism is essential to restoring normalcy and enabling the delivery of education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities in the region.
The latest operation highlights the government’s determination to weaken the Naxalite network in Narayanpur and adjoining districts, paving the way for lasting peace and inclusive development for tribal communities.
