Udupi: Adani Foundation donates waste collection vehicle to Padubidri Grama Panchayat under CSR

Udupi, Feb 2: Adani Power Limited – Udupi Thermal Power Plant (UTPP), operating at Yellur village in Kaup Taluk of Udupi District, in association with Adani Foundation, handed over a specially designed waste collection vehicle to Padubidri Grama Panchayat under its Community Infrastructure Development initiative as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The vehicle, procured at a cost of approximately Rs 14 lacs and equipped with a hydraulic deck for efficient collection and disposal of solid waste, was formally handed over by Kishore Alva, president & executive director – Adani Group, to Shashikala, president, Padubidri Grama Panchayat, at the Grama Panchayat office premises.

Speaking on the occasion, Kishore Alva stated that, as per the annual action plan of Padubidri Grama Panchayat for the year 2025–26, Adani Foundation had utilised the CSR grant of Rs. 14 lacs for the procurement of the waste collection vehicle. He emphasised that effective and scientific waste management is one of the most critical requirements for building sustainable, healthy and clean communities. The balance of CSR grant of Rs. 6 lacs for the current year is being utilised for development works to crematorium, he added.

He appreciated the proactive approach of the Padubidri Grama Panchayat in identifying solid waste management as a priority area and including the proposal in its annual action plan. He further informed that Adani Group has extended a special CSR grant to seven GPs in the vicinity of the Udupi thermal power slant, including Padubidri, exclusively for community infrastructure development works, in addition to the ongoing CSR initiatives in the areas of education, health, promotion of rural sports, art and culture.

Alva expressed his satisfaction that all the seven grama panchayats are preparing their annual action plans in a systematic and participatory manner, taking elected representatives, village members and other stakeholders into confidence. He said that such structured planning has greatly facilitated Adani Foundation in the timely and transparent implementation of development works at the grassroots level.

He also informed that, so far, Adani Foundation has spent CSR grants amounting to Rs.1.92 crore within the limits of Padubidri Grama Panchayat exclusively for community infrastructure development projects.

Receiving the vehicle, Shashikala, president of Padubidri Grama Panchayat, expressed her sincere gratitude to Adani Foundation and Adani Power Limited – Udupi TPP for their continued support to the Panchayat. She stated that the newly inducted vehicle would significantly strengthen the Panchayat’s waste collection and disposal system and would play a vital role in keeping the village neat, clean and healthy.

She further appealed to all residents of Padubidri Grama Panchayat to actively cooperate with the panchayat in maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and to support the national vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. She remarked that Adani Foundation’s CSR initiatives have emerged as a major support system for the surrounding villages, as the benefits of various development programmes are reaching even the remotest corners of the panchayat.

Among those present on the occasion were Manjunath Shetty, panchayat development officer, Hemachandra, vice president of Padubidri Grama Panchayat, and Grama Panchayat members Ravi Shetty, Jyothi Menon, Sunanda, Mubina, Shobha Shetty, Sandesh, Ashok, Harish Shetty, Naveen Shetty, Sujatha Acharya, Shashi and Niyaz.

Representing Adani Power Limited – Udupi TPP, Ravi R Jere, AGM, and from Adani Foundation, Anudeep, were also present.

Manjunath Shetty, panchayat development officer, welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.
