Banda, Jan 27: In a tragic incident in Banda district, a brother and sister allegedly died after consuming poison following a family dispute, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred near the Bagai river, about 100 metres from Barcha bridge. Farmers working in nearby fields discovered the siblings lying unconscious on the riverbank on Monday and alerted the police.
The victims, identified as Anand Prakash Gupta (30) and his sister Chanchal Gupta (34), residents of Shastri Nagar in Naraini town, were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead, Baberu Circle Officer Saurabh Singh said.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination. Preliminary investigations indicate that the siblings may have taken the extreme step due to family discord, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report.
Further investigation is ongoing.
