New Delhi, Jan 26: Actor R Madhavan has expressed deep gratitude and humility after being named a recipient of the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours, for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Reacting to the announcement, Madhavan said he accepted the honour with profound gratitude, describing it as beyond his wildest dreams. He dedicated the recognition to his family, saying their constant support and faith had been his greatest strength throughout his journey.

Reflecting on the collective effort behind his success, the actor said the recognition was possible only because of the blessings of his mentors, the goodwill of well-wishers, the love and encouragement of the public and, above all, the grace of the Almighty. He described the Padma Shri not merely as an award, but as a responsibility, and pledged to carry the honour with dignity, sincerity and a deep sense of commitment to the values it represents.
The Padma Awards for 2026 were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the eve of Republic Day, with Madhavan’s name featuring alongside distinguished personalities from fields such as art, education, sports and public service.
A celebrated figure in Indian cinema, Madhavan has built an illustrious career across multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. He rose to prominence in Tamil cinema with Mani Ratnam’s romantic drama Alai Payuthey in 2000 and made his Bollywood debut the following year with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.
