Ahmedabad, Jan 25: Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil’s nephew allegedly shot his wife intentionally before taking his own life at their residence in Ahmedabad, police said on Saturday, revising their earlier assessment of the incident.
The accused, identified as 35-year-old Yashkumarsinh Gohil, was initially believed to have accidentally shot his wife Rajeshwari (30) on Wednesday night at their home in the Bodakdev area, before dying by suicide with his licensed revolver. However, fresh evidence has now indicated that the act was intentional.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Vastrapur police station, Yashkumarsinh deliberately shot Rajeshwari and later ended his own life using the same weapon. The motive behind the act is yet to be ascertained and investigations are ongoing.
“We have registered an FIR against Yashkumarsinh Gohil for allegedly killing his wife before committing suicide. The investigation into his motives is underway,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Jayesh Brahmbhatt said, as quoted by PTI.
Yashkumarsinh, who worked as an officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, was the nephew of senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, Shaktisinh Gohil. The couple had been married only recently.
As per the FIR, forensic findings pointed towards an intentional shooting. The angle of the bullet injury, the nature of the firearm, absence of signs of mishandling, and the overall scene of the crime ruled out the possibility of an accidental discharge. Investigators noted that the revolver’s trigger required a specific amount of force to be pressed.
The FIR further stated that the shot was fired from behind, with the bullet striking Rajeshwari’s head. The revolver contained only two rounds, both of which were used during the incident, strengthening the case for intentionality.
After allegedly shooting his wife, Yashkumarsinh reportedly called the 108 ambulance service. When the medical team arrived and declared Rajeshwari dead, he shot himself in the head in the same room, the FIR said.
