Chennai, Jan 23: The makers of director Vijaya Kumaaran’s upcoming horror thriller ‘Granny’, led by veteran actress Vadivukkarasi, have officially announced that the film will release in theatres on January 30.
The film has already received a clean U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), clearing the way for its theatrical release.
Buzz around the project picked up earlier this month when actor Vijay Sethupathi unveiled the film’s title and first-look poster on social media. On January 8, Sethupathi shared the title reveal on X, introducing the project titled Granny, produced under the banner VijayaMary Universal Media Production.

The striking title poster featured Vadivukkarasi in a chilling avatar — portrayed as an elderly woman with flowing white hair, holding a lantern in one hand and a staff in the other. Adding to the eerie mood, the image showed silhouettes of two children standing within her form, set against a path surrounded by spirits. The unsettling visual quickly caught attention and sparked curiosity among film enthusiasts.
In addition to Vadivukkarasi, the film stars Dhileepan—cousin of acclaimed filmmaker A R Murugadoss—in a key role. G V Aparna and popular actor Singampuli also play important characters in the horror thriller.
On the technical side, A Manikandan has handled the cinematography, while Chellaiah Pandian has composed the music. Editing duties are managed by M S Gopi, with art direction by PBK Mahendran. The film’s action sequences have been choreographed by Action Prakash, and the project is co-produced by T Saravanan.
With its haunting visuals, seasoned lead performer, and strong technical team, Granny is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Tamil horror releases of the month.
