Mumbai: Stock markets to remain closed on Thursday due to Maharashtra civic polls

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 15: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on Thursday in view of the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections, officials said.

Trading across equity, equity derivatives and commodity segments will be suspended for the day. Market participants have been informed that all contracts originally scheduled to expire on January 15 will instead be settled a day earlier.

The closure comes as the Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday to ensure smooth conduct of polling across 29 municipal corporations in the state. The holiday is aimed at enabling voters to exercise their franchise without disruption.

Normal trading activities on the stock exchanges are expected to resume on the next working day, following the completion of the civic polls.
