Chennai, Jan 12: The makers of Thudakkam, the upcoming film directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and marking the acting debut of Vismaya Mohanlal, have announced that the movie will hit theatres during the Onam festival this year.

The release update was confirmed by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, Vismaya’s father, through a post on X. Sharing his excitement, he tagged the film’s director, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and the Aashirvad Cinemas team, officially announcing the Onam 2026 release.

Since its announcement, Thudakkam has generated considerable buzz, with fans and film enthusiasts closely watching the project as Vismaya steps into cinema. Earlier, when the film was launched, Mohanlal had shared an emotional message for his daughter, expressing hope that Thudakkam would mark the start of a lifelong journey in cinema.

Aashirvad Cinemas, which is producing the film, also welcomed Vismaya with a heartfelt message, describing her debut as the emergence of a new voice and a fresh creative vision. The production house expressed pride in introducing her to the silver screen and wished her success as she begins a new chapter in storytelling.

Vismaya Mohanlal, already known as a writer and author of the book Grains of Stardust, is set to follow in the footsteps of her brother Pranav Mohanlal, who has carved a strong place for himself in the Malayalam film industry.

Producer Antony Perumbavoor marked the occasion by sharing a nostalgic photograph of himself carrying Vismaya as a child, accompanied by a message in Malayalam blessing her journey. Referring to the film’s title, which translates to “Beginning,” he expressed confidence that a promising new chapter lies ahead for her.

Director Jude Anthany Joseph, who helms the project, is acclaimed for successful and critically praised films such as Ohm Shanthi Oshaana and 2018, the latter of which was India’s official entry to the Oscars in 2024. With such a strong creative team, Thudakkam is expected to be one of the most closely watched releases of the festive season.
