Ludhiana, Jan 12: Fresh details have emerged in the brutal murder of a 35-year-old man whose dismembered body was found dumped in an abandoned plot near the Jalandhar Bypass, with doctors suspecting that the victim was injected with an unknown substance before being killed.

Official sources said a three-member medical board that conducted the postmortem found injection marks on the victim’s left hand. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after viscera samples, which have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, are analysed.

The body was brought to the civil hospital for postmortem examination in six pieces, while the right hand was missing. Police have launched a search to recover the missing limb.

Two accused, a husband and wife, were arrested on Friday in connection with the crime. The main accused has been identified as Shamsher alias Shera, a carpenter by profession.

The victim, Davinder Kumar, a resident of Bharti Colony in Ludhiana, had recently returned from Mumbai, where he was employed at a printing and graphic design shop.

Police investigations revealed that Davinder and Shamsher were close friends and that a financial dispute is suspected to be the motive behind the murder.

According to police, the accused allegedly killed Davinder, dismembered his body using a saw, stuffed the body parts into a drum and dumped it at a vacant plot near the bypass, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Salem Tabri police station.

The crime came to light after a passerby noticed the drum and alerted the police. Investigators suspect that some body parts may have been dumped at other locations as well.
