Hoax bomb threats trigger security alerts across Gujarat courts and offices

Daijiworld Media Network - Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Jan 6: A spate of bomb threats targeting courts and government buildings across Gujarat in recent days has put security agencies on high alert, leading to temporary suspension of court proceedings and extensive searches. Authorities have so far found no explosives in any of the locations, describing the threats as hoaxes, though investigations remain underway.

In Ahmedabad, an email threatening a bomb blast was received by the registry of the City Civil and Sessions Court, prompting officials to immediately halt court proceedings. Bomb Disposal and Dog Squad teams were rushed to the premises and carried out a thorough sweep before declaring the complex safe. Around the same time, a similar threat was reported at the Gandhinagar Collector’s Office, where police conducted a complete security check and found nothing suspicious.

Courts in Rajkot and Surat also received threats, triggering precautionary evacuations and heightened security. In Rajkot, lawyers were asked to vacate the premises while bomb and dog squads searched the court complex. In Surat, an anonymous phone call warning of a bomb blast led to the suspension of court work for the day and restrictions on entry as police carried out detailed inspections.

On Tuesday, the Ahmedabad Rural Court was the latest to receive a bomb threat via email sent to its registry department. Following standard operating procedures, court proceedings were stopped and security teams were deployed. No objectionable items were found during the search.

Officials confirmed that the Gujarat High Court has also been targeted by similar threats in recent weeks. About a month ago, a threatening email caused panic at the High Court, leading to a full security sweep that later confirmed the alert to be false. During the same period, an IndiGo flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport following a bomb threat, indicating a wider pattern of hoax alerts.

Police said that despite all threats turning out to be fake so far, each alert is being treated with utmost seriousness to safeguard public safety. Cyber crime teams are now tracing the origin of the emails and phone calls to identify those responsible for spreading panic and disrupting judicial and administrative operations across the state.
