Canacona, Jan 5: In the first reported theft case of the New Year, three laptops belonging to tourists from Madhya Pradesh were stolen from a guest house at Devabhag in Canacona, police said.

According to Canacona police, the theft occurred at Micasa By The Meadows Guest House between 10 pm on December 31 and 3.30 am on January 1. Unknown persons allegedly gained entry into an unlocked dormitory room and decamped with three laptops of different makes, collectively valued at approximately Rs 1.8 lakh.

The complaint was lodged by Tushar Turkar, a resident of Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh. He informed the police that his Apple MacBook Pro 13, along with an Apple MacBook Air 13 belonging to Adarsh Anand and a Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G5 owned by Mohit Zindal, were stolen during the night.

Based on the complaint, Canacona police have registered an offence under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ajit Velip of Canacona Police Station.
